Dante referred to paradise as Paradisio; being Italian of course he would. Dante had to make his way through purgatory before reaching Paradise. I don’t think we should wait and hope for a better afterlife. We should go about recognising and embodying the qualities we hope will leave us living in paradise now.
The paintings have been designed to incorporate messages, images and clues relevant to each images overall theme. The colours have been inspired by the colours of Meso-American art; where red often relates to the sun; the giver of life, blue to water and yellow to earth. White has a relationship with the absence of sun and therefore the night and cold. I also relate white with the negative aspects of human nature and an absence of respect for the other elements. There are elements taken from the dharmachakra and Budhist principles which align well with a Meso- American understanding of our place in the world. The worlds greatest problem is that man thinks its all about him; that water, nature, earth are commodities to be used.
Each image links to a feature page which includes more in depth views of each Artwork, along with a guide as to why I consider it a value I feel we should aim towards.
The series will be completed by September 2025
